Viceroy Shum and 1.5.Cheung, Lord high Chamberlain,
decided sore time ago that the first section of the Canton Anoу
Kailway, 1.6. the Canton Whampoa Hallway, should be constructed
before the other sections which were sanctioned by the Board of...
Commerce. Owing to sufficient funds not having beensubscribel, and
the survey not being completed, this plan has not been carriel cut. Recently the railway Deputy Ting Ping Lan has had the survey of
the 1st. section completed and Viceroy Shum has twice urgel n.. Cheung to get funds so that the construction of the section may be
Commenced at once. Now we learn that some preparations have been
made and a Chief Engineer has been appointed.
